I was a fan from the first moment I laid eyes on it. Now another single dose coffee grinder has come to North America, and I gotta say… I’m a fan. In the visual department, the M3 looks like a steampunk-kinda work of art. The grind output it produces is uniform, distributed evenly, and very fluffy.

Handbuilt, kind of wonky (that belt drive is stubborn), but arguably the best espresso grinder ever made. That said, I do own a single dose grinder I spent a ridiculous amount of money on: a Versalab M3. At least when a hopper is left full, you can grind out a bit of coffee to evacuate those spent stale grinds, before grinding for your next espresso shot or pour over. The second reason is… many grinders retain a lot of spent grinds between uses, and single dosing just seems a fools’ errand, given those grinders can have as much as 2 grams left inside, ground up, between uses. I always cringe when an aesthetically beautiful and functional product is hacked up by a “home coffee expert” to look like it’s better suited in a hoarder garage workbench, than in a designer kitchen. Many home-mod single dose coffee grinders look like a product of the Red Green garage, with duct tape and roughly chopped up plastic. I admit, the primary reason is aesthetics. I’ve been even less of a fan of modifying regular hopper equipped grinders to work as single dose models. I’ve never been a fan of single dose grinders.
